What we do

OUR NEW MENU IS HERE!

You may see some new dishes on our new SUMMER menu.

Authentic Italian dishes

Our pasta is made every morning in the front window by our chef. We first make the tagliatelle for our ragu and then start on The Poco so that they are fresh every day. All our dishes are authentic and traditional Italian recipes drawn from  Jamie's Italian heritage

The bottle shop

When you visit us you will notice a vast selection of the best wine known to humanity for sale. You can buy a bottle or two for taking home or drinking in with your meal.

A BIT OF HISTORY

From my Italian Nonna to Sussex with local produce

My Italian grandparents came from Abruzzo to England in 1946, just after the war. As you can imagine, it was not very popular being Italian at that time however, they settled eventually in Polegate near Eastbourne and just over the hill from Poco in Alfriston.

I used to leave school everyday at 3pm and walk to my Nonna's house and stay there until my Mum finished work. My Nonna never spoke English all the 38 years she lived in Polegate but she had her Ragu going on the stove all that time. The left overs would go back in and the sugo was the same stock for at least 20 years.

As a little boy I would not be allowed to eat the Tiramisu but Nonna would let me lick the bowl of mascarpone. She taught me to cook from the age of 6. I remember she gave me, what I thought at the time was a machete (normal kithcen knife) to cut tomatoes. She had her own little veg garden and showed me the importance of cooking dishes seasonally to reflect what was growing at the time.

We have a true reflection of my Nonna's formula. I think she would be very proud.

Bottle shop - Wine

We have a large selection of wines and local beers for you to take away. Most of our wines are selected direct from vineyards with careful consideration. Come and have a look and try some outstanding wine experiences. We wrap each bottle in our branded tissue.

Wolstonbury Chalk
Reichensteiner sparkling

Ivan, the winemaker, and his family have a vineyard just outside Brighton at the base of Wolstonbury hill. They produce just 3500 bottles a year and we are lucky to be the only outlet for their wine other than their tasting room.

Langhe Nebbiolo/Barbera, Long Now 2004

This wine knocks your socks off... an unusual blend of the two Piemonte grapes using a unique method, The wine undergoes separate vinification for the two grapes. Inky purple in color, this blend opens with aromas of liquored cassis, blackberry, oak spice, licorice and tobacco

We are giving you the opportunity to have just a glass of this wine using our Corvin system

Sorrell Wines The Wrekin Organic Chardonnay

This wine makes us happy...Aromas of yellow apples, lemons and cookies on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with focused acidity and creamy mouthfeel, giving notes of Asian pears, baking spices and chalk. Nicely constructed. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

It is on our monthly specials by the glass list so, you can come and try a glass...
